Leo Carrillo State Park, located in Malibu and inside the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, has a scenery that is centered on the coastline and ocean, and so driving directions speaks to the heart of Southern California. Well, it seems sense, considering that the late actor, preservationist, and naturalist Leo Carrillo (to whom this park is dedicated) spent 18 years on the California Beach and Parks commission. There are 1.5 miles of pristine beaches in Leo Carrillo State Park, as well as tidal pools, coastal caves, and reefs rich with marine life. With all these features, it's an ideal place to go swimming and beachcombing. Surfing, windsurfing, surf fishing, and wilderness trekking draw intrepid tourists.
